Thank you for joining Team Save!

Now you’re on TEAM SAVE, it’s time to get you fully up and running (or riding, singing, baking, dancing, etc, etc).

Let's make your TEAM SAVE fundraising action the best it can be.

Because childhood is worth fighting for.

Below you can find your seven steps to success, but first, let's hear Mili's top tips!

Your personal fundraising Coach

As part of TEAM SAVE, our Coaches are here to give you all the help you need. Email us and we’ll assign you your own personal Coach, who will be in touch.

Step 1: It’s all about you

Getting started starts with you. What’s your motivation for fundraising? What makes you tick? Why help children?

Maybe you saw news coverage of children facing war or extreme hunger. Maybe you heard how Save the Children was providing kids with food, or safety, or schooling.

Or maybe something more personal is driving you – like wanting to boost your fitness or try something different or knit the world’s largest hat!

Whatever your reasons, knowing what’s inspiring you matters. It'll help you to stay motivated and give you the best chance of making your fundraising challenge a success.

So why not make a note of what’s motivating you – in your calendar, on your phone or inside your running vest – to remind you why you’re doing this?

And if you ever need a reminder, head to our Connect to the cause page.

Step 2: Set up your online fundraising page…

This is your basecamp. Without this, your journey can’t even begin. You’d think it would be hard – actually it couldn’t be easier.

Simply go to JustGiving, click on ‘Start Fundraising’ and you’re your way to creating your own page. JustGiving will guide you from there.

If you’re new to JustGiving, you’ll need to sign up. But if you’ve done this before, just log in with your email address.

Need more guidance? JustGiving has created this 2-min video to help you get your page set up.

Step 3: Stand out

You’ve created your page. Now it’s time to make it your own.

Your page is the place to share your story, show your photo and set your target (aim high, my friend – you’re capable of more than you imagine!).

Add in details of what you’re doing to raise money and why you’ve chosen Save the Children UK. This is the focal point – the very epicentre – of your fundraising, so make it count. There’s more on how to get the max out of your page once it’s live in Steps 4 and 5, below.

Step 4: Start spreading the news

Once you’re happy with your JustGiving page, begin sharing it far and wide.

Friends and family
Start easy by sharing the link to your JustGiving page by text, email and via your WhatsApp groups with friends and family. You’ve done all the hard work so far – now it’s their turn to chip in.

Social media
Use social media to tap into your built-in online community. Include a link to your JustGiving page in your bio, posts and stories on Insta, Facebook, X, LinkedIn, TikTok etc. Take a look at Our Top 5 Tips  on how to make your social media posts sing:

1. Share, Share, Share Again

Our social media handles:

2. The Power of Photos

Try to take as many pictures as possible during your fundraiser, especially movement or action shots

3. Hashtags

At the end of your post, include our hashtags: #savethechildren #TEAMSAVE

4. Link to your JustGiving Page

Always include the web link to your JustGiving page in any of your online posts.

5. Videos

A short video can be a brilliant way to promote your fundraiser across to your social media networks.

 Work, school, uni, community group

Get the word out in the real world too. Think about the best channels to use – email, an internal news bulletin, noticeboards, regular meetings, etc.

Outside the box

It’s worth thinking beyond your usual circles and coming up with a list of people you see and speak to, but maybe don’t know as well. Perhaps you’re a regular at the local bakery, are due a visit to the dentist, or are owed a favour by the PTA – the wider you can cast your net, the more donations you’ll get, and the better the future you’ll be building for children.

The Media

If your event feels like the sort of thing the local media might want to cover, reach out to your TEAM SAVE Coach who will help get them involved.

Here’s more on how you can spread the word:

Step 5: Don’t you forget about me

While you’re sharing your page, don’t forget to revisit it regularly to update people on how your fundraising is going and share any new photos. Use it to thank people who’ve donated, and to gently encourage those who haven’t yet.

A nice touch is to show the difference donations can make. When you hit those key fundraising milestones – £50, £100, £200, etc – ask your TEAM SAVE Coaches to send you examples of what those sums can buy for children, helping you inspire more people to give.

Brothers Zac, 12, Abel, 10, Todd, eight, and their cousins Koah, 11 and Phoenix, eight, cleaned their local beach and raised funds for children in Gaza.

Step 6: Get your very own TEAM SAVE t-shirt

Get in touch with our Coaches at [email protected] and we’ll sort you out with your own TEAM SAVE t-shirt.

Wear it with pride to inspire others and show you’re part of our formidable fundraising family. Don’t be shy, share a photo of yourself wearing your t-shirt on your JustGiving page or on social media – it could be the thing that gets you another donation.

Step 7: The boring bit

There’s no sugarcoating it. This is dull. But you don’t want your event to come unstuck over some annoying bureaucratic technicality. So check out our website to keep your event above board and compliant.

  • Use of Save the Children name and logo
  • Whether your event is eligible for Gift Aid
  • Guidance on raffles, sweepstakes, health and safety, food hygiene and alcohol licensing
  • Collecting money and handling donations

You can read more about these and other essential technicalities on our Fundraising Frequently Asked Questions page.
