I work across our digital channels to tell the stories of children across the world.

As we sit and listen to the news about a possible invasion of Ukraine, it's easy to feel helpless and wonder 'what's going on?'

So, let's break it down.

The situation

Children in Ukraine like Olha* (pictured above) have been growing up amid conflict for eight years, enduring violence, shelling, and being forced to leave their homes.

Now, 150,000 troops have gathered at the border of Eastern Ukraine. If the conflict starts to spiral out of control, it would be devastating for children and their families.

The impact on kids

Thousands of families have been unable to return home, and children are missing out on education, health care and other basic services.

We are extremely concerned for children who might be caught in the middle of this armed conflict, forced from their homes in freezing temperatures and exposed to injury and hunger.

What we’re Doing to help

Even before the latest tension, over 400,000 children needed support.

This is expected to grow in the event of any military escalation.

With your support, we’re:

  • delivering winter and hygiene kits
  • providing cash grants to families so they can meet basic needs like rent and medicine
  • providing access to education
  • providing mental and psychological help

If conlfict escalates, we're ready to deliver more life-saving aid.

Every effort should be made to avert a catastrophic war. Children must be protected from harm at all times.
