What's happening in Nepal?
On the morning of 26 August, a sudden flash flood along the Bhotekoshi and Trishuli rivers caused severe damage across the districts of Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading, Gorkha and Chitwan. Floodwaters rose rapidly and without warning, giving children and families little time to reach safety.
While official figures are still being confirmed, it is estimated that thousands of families have been temporarily displaced, with floodwaters damaging homes, roads and vital services. As the full scale of the devastation continues to emerge, we know that floods and other disasters can have a devastating impact on children's lives in an instant.
Children are among the most vulnerable in the aftermath of floods, facing increased risks to their health, safety, protection and wellbeing.
What we're doing to help children and their families in Nepal
- We have already started our response with support for flood-affected communities in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading.
- We aim to reach 1,000 households with essential relief items, including tarpaulins, baby kits, mosquito nets, dignity and hygiene kits, blankets, kitchen utensils, water and sanitation supplies, and other life-saving assistance.
- We have emergency supplies ready across six strategic warehouses, enabling the rapid deployment of supplies to meet the immediate needs of up to 10,000 households if required.
