Reports show a collapsing glacier has caused a devastating flood in northern Nepal. The impact of the disintegrating rock and ice was so powerful it had the magnitude of a moderate earthquake, with debris then surging downstream. Waters rose without warning, leaving children and families with almost no time to reach safety.
We have already started our response with support for flood-affected communities in Rasuwa, Nuwakot and Dhading.
We have emergency supplies ready across six strategic warehouses, enabling the rapid deployment of supplies to meet the immediate needs of up to 10,000 households if required.

Our programmes in Nepal are focused on children’s rights and ensuring they can learn, grow and become who they want to be. We work with more than 100 partners across Nepal, including the government, communities organisations and NGOs.
We look for long-term solutions that will benefit children and their families by improving healthcare and education systems, and helping communities prepare for and respond to disasters.
When the huge earthquake struck Nepal in April 2015, it caused widespread devastation. Thousands of people were killed, homes were reduced to rubble, schools and health centres were destroyed.
Through our emergency appeal, we were able to provide shelter, medical care and hygiene kits to keep children safe.
