The world is terrible. The world is getting better. Two things can be true.
At times, the world can feel hopeless. From Ukraine to Somalia, children are going hungry, missing out on school and living through wars and climate-related disasters.
Another thing is true. The past fifty years have seen incredible progress for children. This hasn’t happened by accident, but through determination, kindness and hard work.
Let’s look back at the progress we’ve made together.

A triple threat to children
Now, a triple threat is unravelling decades of hard-won progress. Over 200 million children are living in conflict zones – twice as many as a decade ago. Almost half of children are at serious risk from the climate crisis, as increasingly extreme weather destroys crops, livestock and livelihoods. And across the world, families continue to grapple with the impact of the covid pandemic.

“I liked my school and now it’s closed,” says Muna*, 13, from Somalia. Muna hasn’t been to school since severe water shortages forced many to abandon her town. We are working to ensure she has the clean water, health care and learning materials she needs to pursue her dream of becoming a teacher.
Protect the progress we've made together
It’s easy to feel overwhelmed by the scale of the challenge ahead of us. But by working together, we can get progress for children back on track.
