Statement - in response to the announcement of new UK aid funding for coronavirus vaccine research

"It's hugely welcome to see the UK showing leadership in the global effort to find a vaccine for coronavirus. A vaccine will be critical to ending this pandemic and will make the biggest difference in the poorest countries, where health systems are least able to cope with increased need. While the Government rightly takes steps to protect the NHS and the economy in the UK, I am proud that the British response to this crisis does not stop at our shores and is working to save lives around the world."
