BorrowMyDoggy and Save the Children break record for most dogs in Christmas jumpers

Save the Children, 8th December 2019

Today, 350 humanitarian hounds from across the capital, from as far and wide as ‘Barking’ to ‘Houndslow’, teamed up with Save the Children and BorrowMyDoggy to break the record for the most amount of dogs wearing Christmas jumpers.

Images and b-roll are available here.

The previous record was 300, also set by BorrowMyDoggy and Save the Children in 2017. The charity estimates that over 1,000 pooches and humans were wearing festive knits this year.

The world record attempt took place at Pear Tree Café in Battersea Park, London, and saw dog owners, dog borrowers, children, families, pups and pooches wear their most wonderful woollies to help the charity campaign which makes the world better with a sweater. Not only did the event bark its way into the world record books, it also raised funds for Save the Children’s vital work. By signing up, wearing a festive knit, and donating to Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day on Friday 13 December, you’ll help the world’s forgotten children have a brighter future.

Gabrielle Taylor, Save the Children spokesperson, said: “A huge thank you to every dog and owner who helped us break the world record for most dogs in Christmas jumpers. We are so grateful to BorrowMyDoggy and all the adorable pooches who wore their festive knits today to support Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day.

“This is the second time we’ve broken the world record, and we can’t believe that we got even more humans and hounds involved this year! It’s a really fun, festive way to raise awareness of important issues. Money raised through Christmas Jumper Day could help Save the Children bring essentials like healthcare, education, protection and food to the millions of children around the world who are missing out on the most basic support.”

Save the Children’s Christmas Jumper Day is taking place this year on Friday 13 December, so it’s not too late to take part! All you have to do is stick on a fabulously festive knit and sign up and donate £2 to Save the Children at christmasjumperday.org. You can also donate by texting DOGS to 70050. You’ll be billed £2 plus standard rate text message. Save the Children receives 100% of your donation.
