Giving Tuesday: 5 ways to give

Happy Giving Tuesday!

This year Save the Children are joining thousands of other charities and individuals and celebrating Giving Tuesday – and we want you to join us. Set up back in 2012 to counter the consumer guilt that many felt following a Black Friday/Cyber Monday blow out, Giving Tuesday allows you to give back, and feel good while you’re doing it. Which after the amount of time you’ve spent scrolling for the best deals on a new iphone is a welcome relief!

In the current climate of difficult news stories and crisis for children in so many parts of the world, Giving Tuesday is a day all about optimism and positive change. It’s a day designed to celebrate the joys of giving, aimed to encourage people to help others through the gift of donations, time, or their voices, with value placed on the intention, not the amount, either of time or money. It aims to bring people together through the power of social media and collaboration to celebrate the joy of giving, and giving back. All in all, it’s a pretty feel-good thing to be a part of. Which is why we’d love you to join us on 27th November.

How can you get involved?

There are so many ways you can get involved on the day, before or after. Check out some suggestions below, or do your own thing. You can share your stories with us and join the conversation by using the #GivingTuesday hashtag.

Make a donation

Visit our Giving Tuesday page to find out more about the campaign and donate to help children where they need us most. Just £5 could buy a jerry can to transport clean water – vital for families fleeing to safety from conflict. Interested to learn more about where your money is going? Find out more about where we’re working and what we do to support children too.

Sign a petition

We will never stop fighting for the rights and right treatment of children everywhere. This Giving Tuesday you can add your voice to the causes you feel most passionate about. Whether that’s standing up for UK aid, protecting children in Yemen, or joining the fight against Pneumonia, yours could be the signature or letter to MP that tips the scale.

Register for a fundraising event

One of the most fun ways to give back this Giving Tuesday is to sign up to a fundraising event. We’ve got loads of runs, walks and cycles you can register for, but if you’ve got an idea of your own, we’d love to hear it and will support you all the way. If you’re feeling festive, we’ve still got places in our London Santa Run (plus you get a free Santa suit just for signing up). To spur you on even more, read our five success stories – children whose lives we have been able to transform thanks to the support of our fundraisers.

Give your time

Giving your time means a huge amount at Save the Children. Our volunteers are a crucial part of our organisation, taking charge of our after our charity shops up and down the country, promoting our stock and helping us to raise even more money. You could also join us as a Campaign Champion – our volunteers who are involved in a wide range of exciting activities within our campaign team. From approaching their MP to working with local groups, arranging publicity stunts and publicising them through the media, if you’re proactive and keen to make a difference, please get in touch.

Become a monthly giver

Our regular givers are a such a vital part of Save the Children. In many ways, a smaller monthly donation is more valuable to us than a one off gift as it allows us to plan ahead, using our guaranteed income to invest in long term opportunities which support children. It also makes sure we have funds ready for if a disaster strikes – children are always the ones who suffer the most. This money allows us to respond quickly and effectively to support in these situations. Join us as a monthly giver today.
