save the children welcomes UK commitment to global financing facility

In response to the announcement that the Department for International Development (DfID) has reinvested in the Global Financing Facility (GFF), a Save the Children spokesperson said:

“Today’s announcement that the UK will commit £50 million to the World Bank’s Global Financing Facility (GFF) is hugely welcome. This transformative new fund will help to close the global funding gap for affordable, quality healthcare – so fewer children die from preventable, treatable diseases like pneumonia.

“The GFF is unique because it uses global cash from donors like the Department for International Development (DFID) to encourage poor countries to build and fund sustainable health systems, ensuring these countries stand on their own two feet.

“The Secretary of State for International Development Penny Mordaunt has rightly thrown down the gauntlet to countries to ‘put their hands in their own pockets’. The GFF is precisely the sort of approach that will deliver this.”
