Statement on the COVID Winter Grant Scheme

United Kingdom – November 8, 2020: Today’s announcement following Marcus Rashford’s incredible campaigning is very welcome," said Becca Lyon, Head of Child Poverty at Save the Children UK.

"The COVID Winter Grant Scheme will provide valuable support to parents and children in England this winter, and expanded food and activity programmes during the school holidays will provide a helping hand when times get tough in the year ahead.

As many families continue to face difficult times, it is also important UK government continues doing the right thing for children by providing immediate reassurance that the £20 p/w increase to Universal Credit will be made permanent, and extended to those on legacy benefits. Families need to know that they’re not going to be £1000 down next year, when the increase ends in April.”
