RESPONSE TO UK's YEMEN AID PLEDGE

Save the Children, 27th February

Following the UK Government's announcement of £200 million in aid for Yemen, George Graham, Director of Conflict and Humanitarian Policy, Advocacy and Campaigns at Save the Children UK, said:

“85,000 children may have died because of extreme hunger and disease since the war in Yemen escalated. The UK’s announcement of new funding for the crisis is welcome, as are its efforts to find ways of ensuring vital humanitarian aid gets through. These steps will help save lives.

“The UK has helped build momentum behind the UN-led peace process, which the international community must back. There may finally be a glimmer of hope of achieving peace for Yemen’s children. But without continued, resolute efforts from all parties it will slip away. Now is the time for the UK and the international community to redouble their commitment to finding a political solution.”
