Response to the Spending Review
Wednesday, 25 November 2015
Justin Forsyth, CEO of Save the Children, responds to the Spending Review.
“The government’s renewed commitment to spending 0.7% of our national income to help the poorest people around the world is very welcome and will transform the lives of millions of children. It is something we can be very proud of as a country.
“At a time when conflict and insecurity threaten the historic progress we have made in lifting millions out of poverty, the government is right to focus on the most fragile states. Save the Children also strongly welcomes the government’s promise in its new aid strategy to prioritise the most excluded groups who have been left behind by global progress – this will be critical to ending poverty in our generation. In this context it will be important to maintain our aid focus on Africa in the coming years, as well as Syria, the root causes of the refugee crisis and other more recent challenges.”
