SAVE THE CHILDREN STATEMENT: FIVE CHILDREN AND A WOMAN KILLED IN ATTACKS IN AFGHANISTAN'S EASTERN PROVINCES

In response to reports that five children and a woman have been killed in attacks in Afghanistan’s eastern provinces on 16 April 2022, Save the Children’s Country Director in Afghanistan, Chris Nyamandi, said:

“Reports that children are among a number of civilians killed in Khost and Kunar provinces is horrifying news. Save the Children strongly condemns the reported attacks and calls for perpetrators of grave violations against children to be held to account.

“After decades of conflict in Afghanistan, children are still bearing the brunt of crisis after crisis and paying with their lives.

“Save the Children runs education programmes for children in one of the villages that was hit, and while thankfully all our staff and the children we support are unharmed, we have paused those programmes until we know it is safe for them to resume. We are devastated for the families who have lost loved ones and offer our sincere condolences.”
