Responding to the Foreign Secretary’s announcement of measures to ban trade with illegal Israeli settlements, George Graham, Executive Director for Global Impact at Save the Children UK, said:
“Today’s announcement from the Foreign Secretary, including banning trade with Israeli settlements in the West Bank, is welcome and represents a decisive shift in the UK Government’s approach to the occupied Palestinian territory. This must be the beginning – not the end – of action to better protect Palestinian children.
“Israel’s illegal occupation is robbing Palestinian children of their childhoods. They are living in constant fear of Israeli settler violence and settlement expansion. State-backed settlers have burned Palestinian families' homes, attacked schools, and committed violent assaults and intimidation at gunpoint.
“This ban signals that the new Government is prepared to take a much stronger approach on the occupied Palestinian territory, but it cannot stop there. Palestinian children in the West bank and Gaza continue to endure a level of violence, deprivation and displacement that no child should ever experience.”
