What is lobbying?

Lobbying is when an individual or group tries to persuade an MP to make a change, whether that’s supporting a particular campaign or a policy. Lobbying can take many forms – from emails to meeting in-person. Find out more about lobbying on the UK parliament website.

What is a mass lobby?
Usually organised by campaign groups or charity coalitions, a mass lobby is when a large number of people meet their MP on the same day to advocate for a specific issue or policy change.

Why should I take part in a mass lobby?

Taking part in a mass lobby shows there is a strong public interest in a particular issue and can help create change. Talking to your MP in-person is also more direct and personal than an email or petition – but all forms of lobbying are important. Mass lobbies are also a great opportunity to meet other people in your constituency and feel like you’re actively making a difference.

On Wednesday 9th July 2025, thousands of people from every corner of the UK will come to Westminster to tell our MPs that this is a crucial moment for leadership to protect what matters most: our climate, and our future.

If you’ve read our most recent climate report you’ll know that 83% of children born in 2020 will face unprecedented lifetime exposure to extreme heat — unless we limit global warming to 1.5°C. We must act now to put children front and centre of our response to climate change.

The Climate Coalition are organising the mass lobby on Wednesday July 9 2025 – they’re a coalition of charities including Save the Children UK, Oxfam, and RSPB. They're the UK’s largest group of people and organisations dedicated to tackling climate change and restoring nature. But don’t worry – if you’re nervous about speaking to your MP, you’ll be given training and guidance so you feel confident speaking about the issues you care about.

What happens on the day?

You’ll be allocated a time and place where you and other people from your constituency will meet to speak with your MP. The Climate Coalition will keep you updated with information on exactly what to expect on the day, and how to talk to your MP. They will also be hosting training sessions if you would like more advice on meeting with your MP. There will also be lots of other interactive activities taking place on the day too, like discussions, performances, and nature walks.

I’m travelling a long way – can you help with costs?

The Climate Coalition may be able to help with your travel costs. You can find out more about the support available, including how to apply by accessing their Travel and Inclusion Policy. If you need any more information, please email [email protected]
