RB Global Community Challenge: Day Six

64 Reckitt Benckiser employees from 33 different countries are in Brazil for this year’s RB Global Challenge in aid of Save the Children.

31 of them are on the Community Challenge in Petrolina, north-east Brazil. The team has raised nearly £300,000 for Save the Children over the past nine months.

Some of these funds are being used to renovate and rebuild two creches in the Joao de Deus community of Petrolina.

Marine, from France, recounts the final day of the challenge:

‘The day, expected and dreaded at the same time has finally arrived. First of all, the inauguration of the Pache Zequinha creche with its beautiful murals and its new trees in the very clean garden.

A lot of children were there , so cute with their ‘banana peaks caps’ made by the teachers during the week and their make up sometimes just surprising.

After traditional speeches by the local people and an emotional one from Sandra, the parade started: a brass band, dancers to Pink Floyd as well as Beethoven.

We paraded under a meiciners sun for about 30 minutes with the children, parents and all of Petrolina’s inhabitants watching us in front of their houses.

It was a great moment.

Finally we arrived at our destination: Joan Paulo creche.

Bigger than the first one, very clean and safe with its new food storage room and murals in the new playing area, too.

We organized several workshops for the children: dancing and singing, modelling clay…and we had a lot of fun with them.

The morning ended with an amazing circle of people dancing and singing for the cultural integration.

For our last afternoon we just did some shopping before the incredible last evening and ….night!

Everything was perfect at the dinner and party last night: beautiful place with private room, lounge terrace with musicians and a nice view just next to the river.

I can just say we had fun, emotion, friendship… In one word it was: WOUAAAAH!!!

A great end to and incredible week!
