East Africa Appeal: Junior Fundraising Superstars

We’ve heard so many great stories recently, of people doing all kinds of unusual and amazing things to raise money for our East Africa Appeal, so we wanted to share a couple of them with you.

Our first story comes from 8 year-old Lucy in Hampshire. Lucy’s parents own a pub, and she decided a great way to raise some money for the children in East Africa would be to put on a concert, playing the pub piano.

Lucy didn’t actually know how to play the piano, but undeterred she decided to teach herself a few pieces including ‘Three Blind Mice’.

She sold tickets for £1 each, and also had some help from friends who made and sold things to raise even more money. In the end she managed to raise a fantastic £149.70!

Our second story is from 11 year-old Alfie in Whitley Bay. He was really upset when he saw pictures of East Africa on the news, and decided to raise some money by running the Junior Great North Run.

The event involves running 4 km, and Alfie managed to raise £200! Here is a picture of Alfie looking triumphant after completing the run:

Thank you so much to everyone who has done anything to support our East Africa Appeal. We’ve heard so many great stories recently and, as ever, we’re constantly humbled by the amount of time and effort people have gone to in aid of Save the Children. A huge huge thank you to all our supporters.
