Born to Run: Nell McAndrew and Lloyds Banking Group
Yesterday over 22,000 runners took to the streets of Glasgow for the Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run.
Nell McAndrew was running the 10k race in support of Save the Children – captaining a team of Lloyds Banking Group employees, alongside fellow team captain, Olympic gold medallist Jason Gardener.
On your marks
There was a great atmosphere as runners geared up to start the race – with Olympian Daley Thompson there to officially set them off.
Runners were taking part for all different reasons – some trying for their personal best, others completing their first ever run.
In fact it was Jason Gardener’s first long distance run – so despite being a champion sprinter he was surprisingly nervous about the 10k – just hoping to make it to the finish line.
Nell McAndrew on the other hand was hoping to get round in a good time, as she is more used to long distance runs and did the London Marathon earlier this year.
The results
The first runner to complete the 10k came in at a speedy 31:41.
Nell wasn’t too far behind and came in as the 7th female runner at 39:16.
Jason also gave an impressive performance completing his first 10k in 50:30.
Nell and Jason then stood on the side lines to cheer on their team mates and all the other thousands of runners.
Everyone crossed the finish line with a huge sense of achievement for having completed the race and raised lots of money for their chosen charity.
Running to end UK child poverty
In total there were over 550 Lloyds Banking Group employees running in support of Save the Children.
The support from this event is part of the wider Charity of the Year partnership between Lloyds Banking Group and Save the Children.
We’re working together to make a long-term difference to the poorest children in the UK.
