We’re reaching more people each day

Overcoming extraordinary logistical challenges, Save the Children’s emergency response team continues to increase the numbers of people it reaches with support each day.

One of the highlights of today was our distribution of essential supplies to 300 families in Port-au-Prince displaced by the earthquake. These supplies were generously provided to Save the Children by the Canadian International Development Agency, which transported the goods from its stockpiles in Mississauga. Each family received a hygiene kit, kitchen kit and a case of water. These basic supplies are essential for families who have lost so much.

Our mobile health clinic in Leogane, another hard-hit area, is seeing about 100 patients each day, and 4 mobile health teams are tending to patients in Jacmel in the south east. Children are attending our Child-Friendly Spaces in Port-au-Prince and Jacmel, where they play with other children and begin the process of recovery in a protective environment. The scale of needs is huge, but our hard-working teams are encouraged by each child and each family we reach with support, and the numbers are climbing daily.
