HAITI: What horrors will we find?

To date, very long journey (36 hours), very little action.  First stop USA; second stop Santo Domingo – where we had 3 hours sleep – before joining the scrum to get into Haiti to deliver vital assistance.  Even rescue teams, and their dogs, are still waiting to join the limited flight options out, so we wait anxiously, nervous about the scale of disaster, the horror we’ll find – and the enormous challenges over the weeks ahead.

Four hours later we’re back in Santo Domingo…So near and yet so far… We got as far as Port au Prince but the small runway, the large number of planes and supplies and the lack of heavy duty unloading capacity meant that after 2 hours circling we’re back to square one.  Stories coming back are pretty awful; and with this number of critical supplies and people blocked its unsurprising that people in Haiti are becoming increasingly desperate.  I wonder how some of the terrified kids must be feeling now?
