We’re here in India!

Well, we arrived yesterday into Delhi and then connected straight on to Kolkota to see the projects sponsored by the last trek.  Seeing the work accomplished so far is amazing, the children are fantastic, so pretty and it is very humbling.

Today we visited the rural areas to visit a village who benefitted from the sewing machines bought 18 months ago.  The girls showed us the skills they have learnt and presented us with gifts to bring home.  On arrival at the village they showered us with flower garlands, unfortunately that is not all we,ve been showered with…..

Problem so far has been the weather!!  It has not stopped raining since we arrived in Kolkata and we got caught up in Cyclone Alia today out in the rural areas.  Getting back to Kolkata was really hairy – the road was totally under water and if one tree had been felled by the high winds then I lost count along the way!  We thankfully made it back to our hotel but witnessed so many families being displaced by the rising water levels.  Being back in the hotel and hearing the news we are all so worried about the friends we made today left behind while the water is rising.  However, we know that as soon as the water has reclined Save the Children will be out there helping the families rebuild their lives again.

We’re all safe and well and praying that everyone else will be too.

Anyone coming out remember to bring your waterproofs with you – think we will be needing them this week!!

We’ll keep you posted on the weather out here – fingers crossed it will improve soon.
