Two smooth flights to Juba
Up early to catch the first of two flights back to Juba. The alternative would have been a bone-jarring journey by car. Thankfully the rain had stopped and the planes could land. Travelling absorbs so much time.
Back in Juba Greg was whisked off to meet the Education Minister and then the head of UNICEF, who talked about the history of Save the Children’s involvement in South Sudan, which started in the 1940s. I spent some time with the UK head of finance looking at how the finances are managed. It is clear that huge inroads have been made to address the recent funding and control issues. The evening was spent debriefing the senior team on our observations.
