From Cardiff to Harare

In little more than a day, I have gone from sitting at my desk in the Cardiff office, looking out at Sophia Gardens, to travelling across Africa, via Nairobi, to Zimbabwe’s capital Harare.

There was so much to tie up and hand over in the Wales programme before I left – a London briefing with the Emergency Team helped to get my head back into Zimbabwe and the issues I will be facing.

A Zimbabwean cargo pilot sat in the seat next to me between Nairobi and Harare – after telling me about his flying safaris in the north of the country, he offered to swap me a free flight to Lake Kariba for a Save the Children Toyota Land Cruiser!

Despite leaving Wales many miles behind, my first meeting is with a fellow Wales team colleague, Mark Chapple, here on deployment in Harare!  A briefing, some key information, a quick e-mail fired off to family and friends to say I have arrived and now: what next?
