Transformation of Training

Building a sector-wide pool of expert trainers

The Transformation of Training (ToT) ensures that when the sector is faced with multiple-level humanitarian crises, high quality learning programmes can continue to take place.

The implementation of the ToT framework is a sector wide collaboration where dedicated staff from Save the Children UK, World Vision International and Plan International will design, implement and manage the delivery of the ToT.

The ToT approach is one where all humanitarian agencies are invited to be part of the ToT collaboration and where resources are shared between agencies.

It is a truly exciting project which will lead to building a stronger humanitarian capacity across the sector.

We focus on building capacity at national level and we provide a recognised career pathway for Trainers across the sector.

Trainers are then expected to continue the roll-out of Save the Children’s highly regarded capacity building programmes and to deliver short, bespoke, modularised versions of these for Country Offices, using our ever-growing bank of humanitarian training curricula.

The idea is also for Trainers to become adept at using blended learning approaches and when required, design their own training programmes.

We want to support local staff in developing the right skills, so they can contextualise our programmes in the long term.

Through a mapped-out career pathway, Trainers develop skills and competencies that will enable them to deliver high-quality training and learning programmes.

A three-tiered professionalised approach to developing the career pathway of trainers ensures we have a robust framework in place, where trainers are assessed using a competency framework and their skills development is supported through observations, mentoring and feedback. By tracking and monitoring at all three levels we ensure we develop high- quality trainers.

The career pathways, described as Bronze, Silver and Gold level, can be taken in isolation or as part of an existing programme e.g. Education in Emergencies. Each level provides the option to gain a certification that is recognised throughout the sector.

We are committed to making the programme available and accessible through fair and transparent selection criteria.
