About our store
July 2014 saw crowds of Highgate Village locals turn out in force to listen to Mary Portas’ inspirational speech, and watch her officially open the newest Mary’s Living & Giving Shop.
Thanks to wonderful donations from the local community, as well as fabulous fashion pieces from premium and luxury brands and retailers.
There was something for absolutely everyone… think cosy slippers and pyjamas from Ruby & Ed, graphic printed homewares from Donna Wilson and Ali Miller, stunning handbags from luxury leather goods brand Aspinal of London and The Cambridge Satchel Company, and Summer footwear from brands such as Jasper Conran, Seven Boot Lane and Grenson.
The shop was designed on a voluntary basis by Delia Covezzi, a Central Saint Martin’s graduate and a former Mary’s Living & Giving volunteer. Inspired by the period homes that line the streets of Highgate, Delia worked hard to bring a touch of the ‘Outside on the Inside’, adding clear references to the village’s rows and rows of colourful panelled front doors, exposed brickwork, manicured hedges, shiny brass knockers and wrought iron guttering.
By cleverly using these elements as fixtures and fittings, as well as having corners full of reclaimed and local memorabilia, Covezzi ensures sustainability is at the heart. Inside the shop (yes, we did say inside), you will find a bright red letterbox that ordains our well-manicured hedge.
