Save the Children responds to Andrew Mitchell launching new UK development brand

Responding to the International Development Minister Andrew Mitchell launching a new UK international development brand today, Gwen Hines, Save the Children CEO said:

“Andrew Mitchell is absolutely right to identify the hunger crisis and the climate crisis as urgent priorities, and we welcome his efforts to rebuild the identity of the international development programme, and to refocus it on the Sustainable Development Goals, after the damage done by the abolition of DFID and cuts to the aid budget.

“Reforms to the global financial system are essential in achieving impact on these priorities, but they must come alongside, not instead of, official development assistance (ODA) funding. If the Government is serious about restoring its global leadership role it must reverse its decision to abandon the 0.7% commitment to the aid budget."
