We wish to make it clear that when we said that Kevin Watkins had initiated an independent review of our culture, and that it would report to him, we never intended to suggest that he would run it. Mr Watkins simply wished to emphasise the importance he placed on this process and its outcome. The review was always going to be run by an independent expert and report to a sub-committee of the Board of Trustees. Mr Watkins’ role will be to receive the report at the same time as it goes to the Board, and implement any recommendations as CEO. Media reports suggesting that Mr Watkins has been forced to recuse himself from the review are therefore misleading.
