Onward's 'A New Deal for Parents' is another example of calls from across the political spectrum for the two child limit to be abolished

9th August 2024 - In response to the publication of Onward's report, 'A New Deal for Parents', Meghan Meek-O'Connor, Child Poverty Policy Lead at Save the Children, said:

Today, Onward published their report “A New Deal for Parents". If you are covering this story please find below Save the Children’s response to its findings:

“Onward’s findings are yet another example of organisations and politicians from across the political spectrum calling for the Government to abolish the two-child limit, which holds back 1.6 million children. There is now a clear consensus that ditching this cruel and unfair policy must be a priority at the Autumn Statement.

“The two-child-limit punishes children just for having siblings. Scrapping it could immediately lift 300,000 children out of poverty, according to the IFS, and must be the first step in any credible plan to tackle child poverty.”
