Save the Children celebrates a huge fundraising milestone as long-standing partner gives £22 million to create lasting change for children
Since 2016, Save the Children has received a phenomenal £22 million in funding from Postcode Education Trust, thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery.
The impact that has been achieved for children and families across the UK and around the world in those eight years is remarkable. Thanks to their flexible funding approach, Save the Children is able to use its expertise to decide where the need is greatest and how the most impact will be felt. This funding model has allowed the charity to develop innovative projects, adapt to changing contexts and new challenges, and provide education in emergency contexts.
Postcode Education Trust also supports Save the Children’s initiatives to shift the power to local organisations by sharing our knowledge and expertise with smaller organisations and local experts, so that change can be locally-led and self-sustaining.
The £22million in flexible funding has supported Save the Children to achieve some incredible goals. Last year alone the charity was able to:
- Reach 4,214 children in Uganda through educational ‘catch-up’ clubs which were developed in response to the country’s experience of the longest school closures in the world after Covid-19
- Train 13,000 humanitarians as part of our Humanitarian Leadership Academy, delivering online learning courses on mental health and psychosocial support, safeguarding, cash and voucher assistance and inclusive Education in Emergencies
- Reach 21,500 UK families through Early Years Grants to ensure essentials like supermarket vouchers, household products and learning resources reach those who need it most
- Work hand-in-hand with partners in Burkina Faso and South Sudan to run education projects, applying their local knowledge of what children in their communities need – ensuring that local challenges are being met by local solutions
- Respond immediately when disaster strikes and work with local partners to set up vital safe spaces for children to play and keep learning
For the past 100 years, Save the Children has been constantly adapting to address the problems of tomorrow, and working hand in hand with children so they get the future they deserve. Together, we are creating change that lasts lifetimes.
Sayyeda Salam, Director of Partnerships and Philanthropy at Save the Children, said:
“We are immensely proud of the work that is being achieved thanks to this support and we are hugely grateful to Postcode Lottery players. Thanks to the extraordinary amount of money raised, we are able to harness the skills and knowledge of local experts to create and scale innovative solutions to the problems faced by children around the world. Together we can make change that lasts generations.”
Postcode Lottery players are contributing towards a healthier, fairer, greener world and to date more than £1.3 billion has been raised for thousands of charities and local good causes.
