STATEMENT: There is no ‘new era’ of security without greater investment in international co-operation

11 Jun 2025 Global

In response to the Chancellor’s spending review please see the below statement from Save the Children:

“The spending review was an opportunity for the UK Government to reverse its aid cuts and acknowledge that our national security and economy depend on global stability. Slashing the aid budget ultimately threatens our safety at home as conflict and poverty increases, and climate disasters drive displacement and fuel instability. There is no ‘new era’ of security without greater investment in international co-operation. The government must change course.

"Continuing to draw costs of hosting refugees and asylum seekers from the aid budget denies support to millions of children across the world. The Chancellor committed to bringing these costs down. While it’s vital the UK continues to support those seeking safety here, the government must ensure these savings from the aid budget now go towards boosting life-saving investments in children overseas.”
