STATEMENT: Significant reductions in aid spending will result in deaths of the world’s most vulnerable, including children

Statement following today's Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) ODA budget allocation announcement

Lisa Wise, Director of Global Policy, Save the Children UK said:

“The government has confirmed our worst fears - significant reductions in aid spending will result in deaths of the world’s most vulnerable, including children.

"Upholding their previous pledge to the International Development Association is welcome, as is the continued support for international climate finance. But it appears the government is focusing on the optics of meeting its own targets. It is bringing future spending into this budget, rather than prioritising the impact for children most affected by poverty and the climate crisis.

"International spending must be part of a genuine strategic approach - where the needs of people facing inequality and at risk of crisis are at the heart of development, not one driven by balancing the books.”
