Our generation. Our vote.

A political literacy project for under 18s

Young people don’t feel listened to by our politicians

In the run up to the 2024 General Election, we’re giving children the chance to have their say.

Young people tell us that they don’t feel heard.

"MPs don’t care or keep in mind young people when they are making decisions, it doesn’t feel like we are their priority”. Obed, aged 15.

What’s more, 70% of under 18-year-olds don’t know the name of their local MP and two in five don’t understand what politicians do. (Opinium 2024

Our Generation. Our Vote. is a  political literacy programme with some 50,000 under 18-year-olds from across England and Wales registered to take part.

The education project will teach children about politics and the democratic process before culminating in a mass election for children.

The results will be broadcast on FYI on Sky Kids on 28th June 2024, amplifying young voices at a crucial moment in our country’s political history.

Who is behind Our Generation. Our Vote?

A project of this kind is only achievable through collective effort. Our Generation. Our Vote. is run by a coalition of over 20 organisations across the youth democracy and education sectors.

Within the coalition, Save the Children provides coordination support and funds the development of educational resources, focusing on supporting smaller sized organisations.

Other coalition partners strengthen the project in other ways - conducting data analysis, creating resources, providing peer education support, and encouraging sign ups to the project within and beyond their networks.

“We are delighted to be working with so many expert organisations to bring this project to life.”

- Meg Briody, Head of Child and Youth Participation at Save the Children
