Your generous donation can provide children and families affected by the Myanmar earthquake, as well as other disasters across the world, with life-saving essentials like food, water and crucial mental health support. It can also help create lasting change through longer term programmes to alleviate poverty and the chronic impact of climate change.
Myanmar Earthquake: Six Months On - Children Still Need Your Help
It's been six months since a devastating 7.7 magnitude earthquake and strong aftershocks hit Myanmar, killing more than 3,800 people and injuring around 5,100 more.
The crisis continues. Many families are still living in temporary camps after over 50,000 homes were destroyed or severely damaged. In July, heavy rains caused severe flooding and landslides, making it even harder for families to rebuild and recover.
Children are suffering. Thousands of students had no school to return to in June since more than 2,600 schools were damaged or destroyed. Their mental health is also suffering after witnessing such a terrifying disaster.
Food crisis deepening. Before the earthquake, conflict and climate disasters meant one third of the population needed support. Now, food insecurity is rising since crops, grain stores and farming equipment were destroyed. Damaged roads and infrastructure are making it even harder to transport food and other goods, while disruptions to trade routes are causing the price of commodities to rise.

Real stories: How your donations help
Moe Lay is one year old* and lives with her mother and grandmother in Mandalay, Myanmar. During the earthquake, her mother was badly injured and required major surgery. Without her mother, Moe Lay didn't get the nutritional support she needed.
Our teams visited Moe Lay and her grandmother at home and discovered she was malnourished. We provided her with treatment (ready-to-use supplementary food) and advice on how to feed her to keep her healthy. Now, she is recovering well.

Children in Thailand need help too
When the earthquake hit, tremors were felt across the region especially in neighbouring Thailand. Almost 600 homes and many schools were damaged, impacting thousands of children – particularly migrant and refugee children living on the northern Thai-Myanmar border.
We worked with partners in remote northern areas to provide mental health and protection support to children and families worst impacted by the quake, helping more than 32,069 children overall.
We also assessed and repaired 87 schools, 58 migrant learning centres and 29 schools in refugee camps so children could return to learning safety as soon as possible.
The work continues - but we urgently need your help
We've been supporting children and families in Myanmar for more than 30 years. We're one of the largest international non-governmental organisations working across the country and have strong relationships with local partners and community groups.
Over the next six months, we aim to help 300,000 people, including 150,000 children. We'll continue providing food, water, cash, emergency health and nutrition care, as well as education, child protection and mental health support.
However, our response is only 25% funded. We urgently need more funding to protect children's lives and futures.
Please donate to help children in Myanmar and around the world, wherever the need is greatest.
