Dom Joly is an award-winning comedian, author and travel writer. He created the global hit series, Trigger Happy TV, before going on to make shows for the BBC, FIVE, Sky One and Comedy Central USA.
Dom first started supporting Save the Children through social media, helping to raise awareness of the crisis in Syria. He has been a tireless supporter of our Syria campaigns, visiting children in refugee camps in Jordan and promoting our fundraising events in the UK.
Talking about his experiences there he said: "Whatever the rights and wrongs of the Syrian conflict, children are innocent and must be taken care of. "The international community should do everything it can to help bring an end to the violence, however remote a prospect that is. "In the meantime, we must make sure the innocent child victims of this conflict, like those I met in Jordan, are given all the help they need.”
In 2018, Dom visited eastern Ukraine in support of our - Protecting Children in Conflict (PCIC) - humanitarian work. And in 2023 he joined us to urge MP's to reconsider their vote on the Illegal Migration Bill and show compassion to children seeking refuge. Disguised as an iconic children’s cartoon character, Dom demonstrated outside the Home Office to send a clear message to MPs: “Stop Child Detention.”
He said: “Right now, the government’s priority should be the welfare of vulnerable children seeking asylum, but instead they are intent on creating a hostile environment. Seeking refuge is not a crime. Children have every right to have a bright future. We need to stop this Mickey Mouse Bill now.”
Dom has also supported many Christmas Jumper Day campaigns. To mark the 12th year of the campaign, he donned a Transport for London (TfL) Revenue Inspector’s uniform and took to the London Underground to check that commuters are indeed sporting their finest festive knitwear for the charity.
