Concerned about a Child?

If you are concerned a child may be at risk or is experiencing abuse or neglect, don't wait until you're certain, contact the Police on 999 in an emergency or 101, online in a non-emergency. You should report your concern to the local children’s services hub where the child lives here. You can also report concerns to  NSPCC.

Unaccompanied Asylum-seeking children

Family reunion support

  • CFAB offer a free Advice Line, five days per week, to provide guidance and practical support on cross-border children and family cases
  • The ICRC run the Central Tracing Agency to help you to get back in touch with a missing relative

Child abduction overseas

The Foreign Commonwealth and Development Office have support for parents whose British child has been abducted overseas.

Parenting Support

  • Family Lives offer a free and confidential helpline to offer emotional support, information, and guidance, call them on 0808 800 2222
  • Kidscape offer support and advice to parents, carers, and young people affected by bullying 
     

Vulnerable Adults

Concerned about an adult?

If an adult is in immediate danger, call the police on 999 straight away. If you are concerned an adult may be at risk of harm, please call the police on 101 or online in a non-emergency.

You should share your concern with local Adult Services who can support with care, wellbeing, learning, financial and other support needs.

Hourglass run a confidential helpline for older person who is at risk of or recovering from any form of abuse or neglect.

Mencap run a helpline to support people with learning disabilities and their families.

The National Domestic Abuse Hotline run by Refuge is available to provide support to survivors, & families in a variety of formats including BSL.

Support with Addiction

The NHS offers a range of advice for addiction, including drug and gambling addictions.

Help me Stop have rehab centres in Central London, West London and Winchester, as well as support with rehab online.

General support

Support from Local Authority (your Council) Services

Your local authority can support you in a variety of areas, including financial assistance, emergency housing, early help grants, parenting support & social and mental health care. Find your local authority here.

You may also wish to complain about your local authority or the service they are providing you. Find details of each Local Authority on their website. 

Housing

  • Local councils can give advice and provide emergency and temporary accommodation in some circumstances
  • Shelter provides free, confidential advice to people with housing problems
  • Crisis is the national charity for homeless people 

International Medical Care

MSF has hospitals and other healthcare facilities in countries where access to healthcare is limited.

Harmful content on social media

Please report abuse content via the platform you have seen it on (i.e., Twitter, Facebook, Instagram).

If the content relates to the UK please report to Internet Watch Foundation (IWF) or CEOP. If a UK child or adult is at risk of harm please call the Police on 999 or 101 in a non-emergency.

Financial Assistance

  • Trussell Trust are a collection of foodbanks offering food parcels
  • Turn2us offer information on benefits, grants and financial support

Mental Health Support

If you are concerned that somebody is having a mental health crisis and is a risk to themselves or others, call 999.

If you are concerned about a child, Child, and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) are contactable to support children and young people with mental health concerns.

Your GP can provide advice and support, including medication or referral for talking therapies.

  • Samaritans are available if you need to speak with someone on 116 123
  • Mind also provides support with mental health
  • Shout has a 24/7 text messaging support service- just text SHOUT to 85258
