With the support they need, children are free to play. They can explore the world around them, do better at school, make friends and feel good.
We’re finally getting our lives back – albeit in a changed world. A world where it’s more important than ever to support children around the world who are missing out on good food and healthcare.
That’s why we wanted to share some images that capture the joy of children who have what they need to be healthy, happy, and free to play.
And when’s that ever been more important?

Eshe*, 9 months, receives her measles vaccine in Tigray, Ethiopia.
Our Emergency Health Unit is running mobile clinics providing healthcare to children affected by the conflict in Tigray, so they can stay safe and healthy.

Emo, 5, plays with the family ducks, Sylhet, Bangladesh.
Thanks to UK aid, our Suchana programme supports mums through pregnancy and during their children’s most crucial years of development. Mum Rumana gets advice and support to feed Emo and her siblings a nutritious diet – and she can see the results!
She says “My children climb trees, play marbles and cricket, chase each other, play peekaboo, wander off – only when they’re at home and sleeping do I stop worrying about them!”

Tania, 7, holding her little brother Kamran outside their home in Sylhet, Bangladesh.
Tania’s family are involved in the Suchana nutrition programme too. The advice, support growing vegetables, and help building up a source of income means the whole family are doing well.
Plus, Tania’s neighbour runs a girls advocacy group supported by us and our partners. Since the group has been running in her area, Tania’s received lots of life advice, support and friendship from older girls in her village. And when Tania’s a bit older, she can officially join the group!

Newborn baby Hassan*, pictured here just before he received his vaccinations.
Somalia has one of the world’s highest rates of maternal mortality. It’s thanks to UK aid that Gardo General Hospital maternity ward is helping new mum’s deliver their babies safely.

Intan*, aged 4, smiles outside her new house in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia.
Save the Children supported her family with funds to rebuild their home after it was destroyed in an earthquake.

A drumming and dance workshop at one our safe spaces for children in Mahama Refugee Camp, Rwanda.
These spaces are a place for children and young people to learn, play, and get the support they need to rebuild their lives after having to leave their homes.

Mina, mother of 5, helps her daughter learn to walk in her village in Sylhet, Bangladesh.
Through UK aid, Mina learned about nutrition and livestock, which helped her give birth to a beautiful baby.
Now she takes what she's learned and shares it with the community, helping other mums and babies live healthier lives.
This summer, let’s make up for all those lost lockdown moments – by creating a million moments of play for millions of children missing out. Let’s help children across the world to bounce back after the pandemic. Let’s play.
