Chelsea fund announcement a 'significant step' after successive Governments blocked release

17 Dec 2025 Global
17th December 2025 - In response to today's announcement that the UK Government will take steps to release the £2.5+ billion proceeds of the sale of Chelsea Football Club for the victims of the war in Ukraine, Alison Griffin, Head of Conflict and Humanitarian at Save the Children UK, said:

"This is a significant and welcome step towards finally seeing this huge fund released to support victims of the war in Ukraine, after successive Governments have blocked its release for over three years.

"It must now be unlocked to support all victims of the war in Ukraine – whether inside or outside the country. It would transform the lives of countless children and families who have suffered terribly throughout this conflict. They must not be made to wait any longer for one of the largest humanitarian funds in history."

Alison is available for interview. Please contact [email protected] / 07831 650409 with any requests.
