Fundraising at new heights for Save the Children

This year, Jeremy Duggan, age 48, and his son Tommy, age 17, from Ascot in Berkshire completed two highly demanding treks to raise funds and awareness for Save the Children.

In May 2019 they summited Huatana Picchu over a gruelling two-day climb. Their second challenge was Kilimanjaro, the world’s largest free-standing mountain, which stands at just under 20,000 feet, posing obstacles such as severe oxygen deficits and extreme altitude sickness. On 22^nd September 2019 after an arduous eight-day night climb, they reached the summit.

Jeremy’s employer Cisco doubled any donations made by his colleagues through Cisco’s Matching Gifts Program to bring Jeremy’s and Tommy’s fundraising to a grand total of £110,000 for Save the Children.

Why Save the Children?

Jeremy describes why they decided to take on this challenge for Save the Children: “I feel incredibly lucky to be raising money with my son to help vulnerable children across the world. As a parent, it’s difficult to imagine how challenging life can be for young children living in war zones around the world. To have the chance to do something positive to raise awareness and support for the lifesaving work Save the Children do is a real privilege.”

Tommy continues: “I feel so proud to be able to take on this challenge alongside my Dad in order to raise money for Save the Children and support their cause to help disadvantaged children across the globe. I’ll never forget the shared experiences we’ve had throughout this incredible journey and I’m delighted that it’s all for a good purpose. It’s amazing the amount of support we’ve had so far and I can’t wait to see how much we raise overall.”
