Annual Report

Save the Children UK in 2016

Rising to the challenge

2016 was a year of change and uncertainty across the world. For Save the Children it was a year of huge challenges. Our annual report shows how we responded.

In 2016 we helped children in the toughest situations.

From saving refugee children at risk of drowning in the Mediterranean to protecting children in conflict in Syria, Yemen and South Sudan, to launching a new global campaign of support for Every Last Child.

Get to know the six case studies we profiled for the 2016 Annual Report.

Amena was suffering from a heart condition and severe asthma when the family was rescued, and had to be airlifted to a hospital with her mother, whilst her father and brother had to stay on the ship as it returned to Italy. The family feared being separated forever but once the ship arrived in Sicily, Save the Children worked to reunite them. Amena* has now made a full recovery and the family is seeking asylum in Europe.

Amena, a case study from this year's report, was suffering from a heart condition and severe asthma when she and her family were rescued. After being airlifted to a hospital with her mother, she made a full recovery and has been reunited in Holland with her family, where they've secured asylum.
