This paper presents the results of research conducted by Save the Children UK on the Provincial Reconstruction Teams (PRTs) in Afghanistan. Evidence was gathered from a comprehensive literature review, structured interviews, and field-level and policy analyses. The paper describes the security context and the role of PRTs, then analyses the implications of these teams for humanitarian agencies. It concludes by identifying key issues concerning relations between humanitarian and military entities, and presents some issues for further debate.
