Traditionally, researchers have given us a ‘static’ snapshot of poverty in Northern Ireland by looking at a particular place and time.
As a result, it’s not clear how long children remain in poverty.
Does it have a long term impact on a smaller number of children? Or do children and their families move into and out of poverty.
New research enables us to study, for the first time, the duration and dynamic nature of child poverty.
Four years of data from the Northern Ireland Household Panel is now available.
This paper summarises key findings from our research into the level of persistent poverty in Northern Ireland.
