This paper outlines why Save the Children UK believes that providing cash directly to poor people could rapidly speed up progress towards achieving the first UN Millennium Development Goal - to halve the proportion of people living in poverty and hunger by 2015.
We explore evidence of the impact of cash transfers on improving households' access to food and reducing child malnutrition.
Common concerns around cash transfers are explored. Finally, we present our position on cash transfers as a strategy to reduce child malnutrition.
