Give Us a Hand with Childcare

10 key messages from parents in Scotland

September 2013

This report outlines 10 key messages and issues from parents in Scotland about using and accessing childcare.

Save the Children organised 12 in-depth ‘childcare conversations’ across Scotland between parents and local decision-makers in order to give parents a voice.

More than 100 parents took part – mums and dads, single parents and parents in couples, parents who are in work or studying, and those who are currently unemployed.

Parents told us that they wanted their children to have the best start in life, to be able to fulfil their potential and have safe, nurturing, stimulating environments and enriching experiences. Childcare services have a key role to play in making this aspiration a reality.
