Development, Rights and Justice for the World’s Poorest Children

In this submission, Save the Children highlights some important areas where we believe that new thinking and new approaches are necessary on the part of DFID and the UK government.
In each of these areas,we put forward some specific policy recommendations.
The areas identified are not exhaustive.
We have focused on issues where Save the Children is doing programming or carrying out policy research and advocacy.
Our top priority as an organisation is newborn and child survival, using our influence to help reduce under-five mortality, including through work on health, nutrition, social protection and related issues.
We have very strong programmes of work around education and child protection, and we are a significant player – operationally and in policy terms – on humanitarian issues.
We are currently strengthening our work on children’s rights, governance and equity issues, as well as climate change.
Although issues like trade, taxation, corporate responsibility, the reform of the international financial institutions or the role of the EU are hugely important, we are not currently working on these issues and have therefore not addressed them in our submission.
