Our response

Save the Children was already on the ground and able to respond very quickly, but we urgently need funds to save many more children’s lives, and stop the crisis getting even worse.

  • We have reached more than 2.5 million people across East Africa — 1.8 million in Ethiopia, 445,000 in Kenya and nearly 285,000 in Somalia.
  • We are providing healthcare to more than 270,000 people, including life-saving treatment, vaccinations, and ante and postnatal care.
  • We have reached 787,000 people with clean water, hygiene kits, hand washing points and latrines in refugee camps and schools, and created innovative rainwater harvesting systems.
  • We have reached over 1.1 million people with food and agricultural items such as seeds, fuel and animal fodder in Ethiopia.
  • Our feeding programme for children under five, pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers in the region, has reached 450,800 people so far.
  • Thanks to your generous support, we are beginning to see some improvement, however millions of people are still facing severe malnutrition.
