This weekend thousands of celebrities, artists and festival-goers joined our global movement to help save children’s lives.
Monday 29 June 2009
Alex Kapranos from Franz Ferdinand, Florence Welch from Florence and the Machine, K T Tunstall, Jack Peñate, Tinchy Stryder, The View and Graham Coxon from Blur all gave us their thumbprints in support of our Make Your Mark petition. They were joined by Keith Allen, Jodie Harsh, Pixie Geldof and presenters Reggie Yates, Andrew Marr, Nick Grimshaw and Dick and Dom.
We’re collecting the thumbprints of millions of people across the world to persuade world leaders it’s time to take dramatic action to reduce the number of children dying each year before their fifth birthday, which is currently approaching a shocking 10 million.
Around 115,000 babies around the world have died this Glastonbury weekend, mostly from preventable or treatable causes. That’s almost the same number of people attending the festival – or the entire population of the nearby city of Salisbury.
We want 10 million people around the world to lend their support and push governments to STOP children dying from hunger, dirty water or treatable illnesses like malaria or measles.

K T Tunstall said, “I chose to make my mark for clean water. Every child should have access to clean water; it’s a basic human right”.
Glastonbury is just one stop on our awareness-raising tour this summer – so it’s not too late to ‘Make your Mark’ in person! Find us at Camp Bestival, The Bristol Balloon Festival, V Festival Chelmsford or Bestival. Or, if you haven’t already, Make your Mark online.
