Young Stars of Kroo Bay
About us
Sunny Boy, the Young Stars coach
I used to play football and I decided I would train the boys instead. I started the Young Stars of Kroo Bay football team in 2006.
Chris - team captain
I love football. I’ve played for more than five years and have been with the Young Stars for two years.

There are three good children’s teams in Kroo Bay - the Young Stars, FC Apapi and Young Manchester.
Our team’s doing very well, but it’s hard. We don’t have our own shirts, so when we play a game we have to rent them for 5,000 Leones. We don’t have proper balls, our keeper doesn’t have any gloves and we don’t have boots - we play in plastic sandals!
We train every day from 8 till 10 before school, except at the weekends. I have 42 players. There is an A team and a B team and for games we only register the best 16.
Every year in September and October we have a youth football league that we play in. We’ve won the trophy once and reached the semi-final another time.
I very much enjoy working with the boys, they are good boys. They do well on the field and they’re doing well in school.
I want God to smile on them and for them to become professionals like Mohammed Kallon.

In the ‘Young Stars of Kroo Bay’ I play number nine. I am an attacker. I like attackers because of Drogba, and I’m number nine like Drogba. An attacker is a player who when he’s in front of the goal he knows what to do and he scores!
We’ve got a very good coach, if you make a mistake he corrects you. I am the captain because every time the coach says something I listen and I do everything for the team. Our top scorer is Foday, but we call him Black Max. Our goal keeper Alhagi is very good at saving goals. We’ve got so many good players.
We play in an under-14 competition every year. We just won a final recently.
Football is very popular in Kroo Bay, everyone likes to play! There’s lots of teams - like Spain, Holland, Old School, Apapi, Waterside FC, Boca Juniors, Brock, Dry, Doodie and Belgium. All of them play each other. Also at Christmas we play the east side of the bay against the west side of the bay.
Fabrigas, Drogba and Ronaldo are my favourite players. Drogba is a great attacker and he likes to score. Fabrigas likes to play to the goal. For me he’s the best midfielder in the world. Ronaldo’s the player who most knows about goals. If he’s in front of the goal he’ll score!
I like watching football with my friends. We usually pay 700 leones. We watch the Premier, Spanish and Italian Leagues. In England I support Arsenal, in Italy AC Milan and in Spain Madrid. I like Arsenal because of the way they play. I believe they are the best team in the world. I watch all the Arsenal games!

Hi my name is Ryan. I like the website, it's very good. Me and my friends are trying to raise money for Kroo Bay by selling lemonade and home made fizzy drinks but we do not have good weather so we are thinking about selling cookies and hot choclate. Anyway, I hope we and lots of other people raise loads of money for Kroo Bay.

The beautiful game of football
Hi Guys
We love watching the video of the All Stars winning 1 nil against Boca Juniors. You are amazing footballers, especially on a clay surface, you must get some injuries. Keep playing and we hope your football dreams come true. We support The Mighty Aston Villa.
Love from Paddy, Joey and Alice
hey up lads
Loving the footwork, it's helping us pass the time in geography... your stories are inspirational, and I have the upmost respect for you all. I'm a massive football fan- but I cant imagine playing in bare feet with that old ball! We'll try send a decent one over for you if we can. Hope to see some of you in the premiership sometime soon!
take care

hi
I am glad your team is doing well. I play for a girls under 12s football team too. I love football and have seen Liverpool 11 times!
Hi young stars!
I think your football team is awesome, I'm playing for an under 14's team too. I wish our team was called something better though... it's name is Johnstown. It's named after the town that we play in. I live about 10 minutes away though. Oh, by the way, my name is Steff. I support Arsenal, Manchester United, Brazil, Barcelona and Madrid and lots more but I won't go that far. I've played football since I was six so that's kind of like 7 years. I've played for Johnstown for 2 years. Johnstown is the best team in the area where I live. We've won every game we've played. Hope you carry on with your ambitions and I think Sunnyboy's cool too.
Hi to the Young Stars
Hi Guys
The Kroo Bay site is fantastic. I run a community and culture website in Birmingham, England called www.spaghettigazetti.com which gets about 2000 hits every week. I wonder if we can our website visitors to buy you stuff like football kits etc? I'm keen to get my website behind the good people of Kroo Bay, especially the young people so have given your website a permanent link. Up the Aston Villa FC!
My best wishes
Pete Millington
Hi Pete,
I\'m so please that you like the site! Thanks for putting a link through from yours.
In regards to the kind offer of football kits, although in principal it sounds a great idea, in practice it\'s a bit more complicated. We have so many offers for various items through the site, which is fantastic, but because of customs clearance and the cost of shipping we\'re sadly unable to take up these offers. We also try and buy items, wherever possible, from Sierra Leone to benefit the local economy.
What we find works best is for people who want to support Kroo Bay to donate through the site which means we can buy appropriate items locally and distribute them through our project in Kroo Bay.
We\'ll keep you posted on the Young Stars matches throughout the summer!
Warm regards,
The Kroo Bay team
