About me
I live in Kroo Bay right next to the school. I live with my aunty. I have 2 sisters and 2 brothers and my aunty has 7 children. We're 12 children in all.
My name is Ramatu and I’m 12 years old. I’m an orphan. My mother is dead.
I'm no fool
My aunt enrolled me to school, I attend FAWE school. Before I was not intelligent, I was a fool. But now, I'm intelligent.
Children need health care
Many children have become sick in this bay. My sister Zainab’s child had malaria and a cold. He died because of that sickness.
On the first birthday of my sister’s child, we wanted to go to bed to sleep at the end of the day but the bed was totally wet. We put more clothes on the wet bed and went to sleep. On the following day, my sister’s child woke up very sick. They rushed my sister’s son to the hospital but he couldn’t survive it. He died eventually.
Once a child gets sick and there is no care, he can die. But if there is medical care, the child will survive the cold.
Calling on the President
I want the President of Sierra Leone to change things that are a problem in our country. I want this government to strengthen girl’s education. I also want this government to fix our drains and stop the water from coming into our houses.
I would be very happy if health care is made free because when poor parents go to the clinic if they don’t have money their child will die. We would be well and healthy enough to go to school and learn.
Change for good
I would like to become a lawyer in the future. I don’t like to see people taking advantages of others especially children.
I want to change things for poor people. I want free education, free medical care, and all basic amenities like rice free of charge so young children will stop dying.
