Adama G, community health officer
About me
State of the clinic
In the clinic we don’t even have the equipment we need for minor surgery. And the clinic is dirty - we have to clean the dust away several times a day, and often the place smells awful. The toilet facilities are very poor and there are cracks all over the building.
Biggest health challenges
The biggest health problems for children in this community are diarrhoea, respiratory diseases such as pneumonia and coughs, worm infestation as well as malaria.
Most people deliver their babies at home, we encourage them to come to the clinic, but they don’t. Then if anything goes wrong during delivery they rush to bring them to the clinic. We don't have a delivery kit at the clinic; the nurse brings her own personal one for deliveries. We can't steralise anything here and we have nothing to dress wounds with.
Meeting the communities needs
I'm newly educated . At college we learnt that a community health officer is trained to meet the communities health needs. I am very excited to be working in this community.

Your clinic!
I am a teacher here in Campbeltown, Scotland, and my S3 pupils (13-14 years old) have had their eyes opened by the challenges you and your colleagues face delivering health care on a daily basis.
All the very best for the future!

Abdul Suhood Komeh- UMPA - Sierra leone
Dear Adama, as a Sierra Leonean living in the U.K. I have to say I am immensely proud of the dedicated service you are providing to a very needy community.
I have been following you webisodes for quite sometime now on the BBC web pages. I find them not only very moving, but also a true source of education in social and community participation.
Your courage and dedication shames us all as Sierra Leoneans especially our educated thieves that call themselves politicians.
It's a shame you guys will never get rewarded deservingly. I feel so guilty that I will make a form of donation to the relevant bodies that I hope will be a touch helpful to the course.
From the bottom of my heart I want to thank you and the team for all the great work. I am hoping to visit Sierra Leone for Christmas and I will pencil it down as one of my musts to pay your clinic a visit.
My thanks again and I am very humbled.
