Adama G, community health officer
About me
State of the clinic
In the clinic we don’t even have the equipment we need for minor surgery. And the clinic is dirty - we have to clean the dust away several times a day, and often the place smells awful. The toilet facilities are very poor and there are cracks all over the building.
Biggest health challenges
The biggest health problems for children in this community are diarrhoea, respiratory diseases such as pneumonia and coughs, worm infestation as well as malaria.
Most people deliver their babies at home, we encourage them to come to the clinic, but they don’t. Then if anything goes wrong during delivery they rush to bring them to the clinic. We don't have a delivery kit at the clinic; the nurse brings her own personal one for deliveries. We can't steralise anything here and we have nothing to dress wounds with.
Meeting the communities needs
I'm newly educated . At college we learnt that a community health officer is trained to meet the communities health needs. I am very excited to be working in this community.

recognition of the dedicated staff at kroo bay clinic
Hello Adama and the rest of the staff,
This is just to say I am very proud of the work you do and the difference you try to make on the lives of the Kroo Bay residence. I have been thinking of an appropriate/ suitable way of rewarding your efforts. I will be in touch soon with regards to that. In a world of selfishnees it is happy to see that there are still remnants of decency left in this world.

Medical Supply Assistance
Dear Adama,
I have been so moved by Sierra Leone and especially Kroo Bay. When I heard of the clinic there and the challenges, I decided I wanted to help. How can I contact you directly regarding sending medical supplies? It may not be much, but each package will contribute to helping with the health of your patients. Continue your blessed work.
Dear Andra,
Many thanks for your message letting us know how moved you\'ve been seeing the experiences and challenges of people living in Kroo Bay.
The best way to help is to donate through the Kroo Bay website as we can then work with the Sierra Leone government and the Kroo Bay community to make sure they have a good, clean clinic and the equipment and medical supplies that they need.
We work with the government to strengthen the structures they\'ve already got in place so that we propvide much longer lasting change for communities like Kroo Bay.
Many thanks again for offering your support.
Warm regards,
Dieneke Van Der Wijk, Country Director

For Adama G
Dear Adama, as a sierra Leonean living in the U.K. I have to say I am immensely proud of the dedicated service you and the entire time are providing to a very needy community.
I have been following you webisodes for quite sometime now on the B.B.C. web pages and find them not only very moving, but also a true source of education in social and community participation. Your courage and dedication shames us all as Sierra Leoneans especially our educated thieves that call themselves politicians. Its a shame you guys will never get rewarded deservingly. I feel so guilty that I will make a form of donation to the relevant bodies that I hope will be a touch helpful to the course. From the bottom of my heart I want to thank you and the team for all the great work. I am hoping to visit Sierra Leone for christmas and I will pencil it down as one of my musts to pay your clinic a visit. My thanks again and I am very humbled.
Hello
Keep up the good and honourable work Adama! Let's hope the outcome of the G8 will improvement into your area too!
Greetings to all and keep praying for the better
Am glad to see that there are hands coming in all over the world aiming at rescuing the innocent children and their mothers who are made vulnerable. Let the struggle continue for paving the way for their brighter generation. Let's too not forget God the creater; he might be having something special for them.
It is his secret.
community ork
Adama, G. I can understand your constraints and difficulties in trying to get things done for the good of the community. The success of your programme depends on 'joined up' effort of the community members and stakeholders who are willing to 'cash in' for the sustainable development and improvement of the lives and living conditions of every resident of kroo bay.
As a commmunity development professional in London, my advice is this: To achiev your aim of getting your programme through to the community; stay focused, pinpoint your target and empower the members to take control of their affairs while you be the supervisor rather than the director. That way you are sure of success. I shall visit kroobay when I come to sierra leone in december.
I graduated from Bo paramedical in 1986 and worked briefly in Sierra leone as community health officer before i moved to the United states in 1992. I am currently residing in Washington DC.
This is special message for Adama G the community health officer of Kroo bay. I am very much impressed by your zeal and dedication even under the most difficult conditions. Please continue the good work.
Thank you very much for the wonderful job you are doing.
