Iraq

We've worked in Iraq since 1991, with programmes for child protection, education, sanitation and health.

Since the conflict in Iraq escalated in 2014, children’s lives have been turned upside down. Bombs rained down on local communities and nearly six million people were forced to flee their homes.

Despite the end of the conflict in 2017, children still face immense challenges and violations of their rights. 1.2 million people remain displaced across the country.

We’re helping displaced children and their families to access safe drinking water and facilities like toilets and showers. We’re also providing cash transfers so that families have the means to protect themselves and can start to rebuild their lives.

EDUCATION FOR ALL

We’ve been helping keep students learning remotely through the pandemic, at all levels of education. We’ve distributed learning materials to students and providing training for teachers, to ensure children receive a quality education.

We also work closely with teenagers and young people to help them access learning opportunities.

SUPPORTING CHILDREN’S WELLBEING

Living through conflict can have a devastating impact on children’s wellbeing and development.

Working closely with local partners, we support children to process their feelings through art and play. We’re running resilience workshops for older children, promoting positive coping skills and helping them understand their rights. These activities help children to re-establish a sense of safety, control and hope.
